PM Janjatiya Vikas Mission Opens New Income Opportunities for Tribal Communities
New Delhi, August 20: The government is focusing on helping tribal communities earn better returns from minor forest produce (MFP) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM). Many tribal families earn around 20 to 40 percent of their annual income from MFP.
Under the mission, 4,172 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) have been approved, connecting 12.48 lakh tribal members. Of these, 2,911 centres are operational and have recorded sales of around Rs 168 crore as of July 31, 2026.
The government has notified minimum support prices for 87 minor forest products. VDVKs provide tribal communities with training, processing, packaging, financial assistance and access to markets, including e-commerce platforms.
The mission aims to help tribal communities move from selling raw forest produce to becoming value-added entrepreneurs, while increasing their income and promoting economic empowerment.
