Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Hails Armed Forces, Highlights India’s Growing Defence Strength

New Delhi, August 15, 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the courage, discipline and dedication of India’s Armed Forces and highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities through self-reliance and indigenous defence production.

Rajnath Singh said that the initiatives of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ have transformed India’s defence sector. Defence production has increased from around ₹46,000 crore in 2014 to a record ₹1.78 lakh crore in 2025-26, while defence exports have reached a record ₹38,424 crore.

He said Indian defence products are now being exported to more than 80 countries, with 145 defence exporters actively contributing to the sector. The Defence Minister expressed confidence that India will achieve its target of ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029.

Highlighting India’s growing indigenous capabilities, Singh referred to advances in modern warfare systems, missiles, warships and aircraft. He also highlighted the successful testing of the indigenous Kusha Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile and progress in hypersonic technology as important milestones in India’s defence journey.

The Defence Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of serving personnel, ex-servicemen and their families. He also highlighted the increasing participation of women in the Armed Forces.

Rajnath Singh said that 2026 also marks the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, and called upon citizens to contribute actively to nation-building while performing their duties with dedication.

He said the nation will always remain grateful to the soldiers who protect India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity with courage and sacrifice.
