Mumbai Urban Transport Project: Railways Prioritises 238 AC EMU Rakes
New Delhi, August 20: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Railways has prioritised the production of 238 AC EMU rakes to ensure timely availability of trains under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).
Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai will manufacture 120 rakes, Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala 71, and Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Rae Bareli 47 rakes.
The supply of the first trainsets is planned to begin in 2027, while production of all approved trainsets is expected to be completed by 2030. The move aims to bridge the gap between the commissioning of new rail infrastructure and the availability of rolling stock, ensuring passengers can benefit from the upgraded network without delay.
