From garbage heap to hospital—DLSA's initiative sets a unique example of humanity

The young man had been lying in a helpless state for four days; upon receiving the information, the DLSA team rescued him and admitted him to RIMS

Ranchi, July 10, 2026: A unique example of humanity was witnessed in the capital, Ranchi. For the past four days, an unidentified young man had been lying in critical condition near a garbage heap in the Bariatu police station area, covered only by a black blanket. The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi, stepped forward to assist the young man—who was battling for his life—safely rescuing him and transporting him to RIMS for medical treatment.

Local residents spotted the young man and informed PLV (Para-Legal Volunteer) Anita Devi. Upon receiving the information, DLSA treated the matter with urgency and initiated action under the directives of JHALSA Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, and the guidance of Member Secretary Kumari Ranjana Asthana and Ranchi Judicial Commissioner Anil Kumar Mishra-1.

A team was constituted under the leadership of DLSA Secretary Rakesh Roshan. Coordinating with the RIMS administration, the team reached the site, rescued the young man, and admitted him to the emergency ward at RIMS.

According to doctors, injury marks were found on the young man's body. Although currently unable to speak, he wrote down his name as 'Akash' and identified himself as a resident of Bihar.

DLSA, Ranchi, has appointed a PLV to look after the young man, ensuring there are no hurdles in his treatment or the assistance provided to him.

The DLSA Secretary has appealed to the general public not to ignore any helpless person found on the roadside or elsewhere. People are urged to contact the DLSA office to help such individuals or to call the toll-free number 15100 for free legal aid.
