Major Initiative Regarding URMP in Ranchi: Emphasis on River Conservation and Rejuvenation
A meeting of the Multi-Stakeholder Working Group was held under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, marking a step towards formulating an Urban River Management Plan (URMP) for the holistic management of rivers and water bodies within the Ranchi Municipal Corporation area. This plan is being developed by the NIUA and the NMCG, in collaboration with the World Bank. The meeting featured discussions on the conservation, pollution control, and rejuvenation of water bodies—including ponds—as well as the Harmu and Swarnarekha rivers. Officials emphasized floodplain conservation, sewage management, water reuse, and public participation. The Municipal Commissioner directed all departments to execute their tasks in a time-bound and coordinated manner.
