CNG Auto Drivers Stage Sit-in in Ranchi; Demand 5,000 New Permits and a Ban on Illegal Extortion
Ranchi: As part of a pre-announced schedule, a one-day symbolic sit-in protest was organized at the Lok Bhawan (Naga Baba Khatal) protest site, led by the Jharkhand State CNG Auto Drivers' Federation. The Ranchi District Auto Drivers' Union also participated in the event. Through the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the Ranchi Commissioner, with copies subsequently handed over to the Municipal Commissioner and the Traffic SP. Dinesh Soni, the Federation's State President, stated that while the city has a quota of 5,000 permits, between 8,000 and 10,000 autos are currently operating without permits. The protesters demanded the issuance of 5,000 new permits and 3,000 e-rickshaw passes, as well as an immediate end to illegal extortion. A large number of drivers were present at the venue.
