Training Programme on Tobacco Control Held at Civil Surgeon Office

A training programme under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was organised on January 27, 2026, at the Civil Surgeon Office auditorium to strengthen tobacco control efforts in the district. The programme was chaired by Dr. Seema Gupta, District Nodal Officer (NTCP).

Addressing the participants, Dr. Gupta said that tobacco consumption is extremely harmful to health and has serious consequences for families and society. She highlighted diseases caused by tobacco use, especially cancer, heart ailments and respiratory disorders, and stressed effective implementation of the COTPA Act. She also emphasised inter-departmental coordination, continuous awareness and strong monitoring to achieve a tobacco-free society.

During the programme, health workers and other stakeholders were informed about tobacco control guidelines, public awareness activities and the role of law enforcement. Discussions were also held on ensuring tobacco-free public places, educational institutions and health facilities.

At the end, District Consultant Sushant Kumar urged participants to actively contribute towards tobacco control. Several doctors, block programme managers, account managers and health workers attended the programme.
