Two militants arrested in Manipur, huge quantity of weapons recovered

 

Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces are continuously carrying out crackdown operations against banned militant organizations. In this episode, during the last 24 hours, two militants of banned organizations were arrested in Manipur and a huge cache of weapons was recovered. These arrests were made by targeting active members of two major militant groups active in the state, Kangleipak ​​Communist Party (KCP-PWG) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

According to the police, the security forces arrested Sarangthem Ibomcha Meitei, active under the name Luwangba, from his residence at Itham Wangma Mayai Leikai on August 27. The 22-year-old KYKL member was caught from the limits of Thoubal Dam police station in Imphal East district and officials recovered a mobile phone from him. Similarly, in a separate operation, security forces arrested V Shiva alias Ishwar Pandey, 36, a resident of Ward 4 of Moreh. The authorities also linked him to extensive extortion activities targeting goods transporters, traders and business establishments as well as arms smuggling operations that supplied weapons to criminal elements in the Moreh area.

A large number of weapons were recovered during the operation. The recovered weapons included high-end weapons like US-made M16 rifles, magazines and ammunition, looted .303 rifles, light machine gun parts, several US-made pistols and improvised explosive devices. The authorities also seized communication equipment including radio sets and protective equipment.

Additional arms were recovered from near Khongnangpokpi area under Sekmai police station and Kotzim village under New Keethelmanbi police station, from where locally manufactured firearms, grenades, carbines and improvised mortars were recovered.
