Lok Sabha Speaker to inaugurate National Conference of Chairmen of SC-ST Welfare Committees

New Delhi.:The National Conference of Chairmen of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committees will be held in Bhubaneswar on August 29. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate it. More than 120 delegates will participate in this two-day conference and the theme will be—“Role of Parliamentary and Legislative Committees in the Welfare, Development and Empowerment of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes”.

According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, in the inaugural session, Om Birla will inaugurate the exhibition and release the souvenir. On this occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Parliamentary Committee Chairman Faggan Singh Kulaste will address the gathering. Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surma Padhi will deliver the welcome address and Deputy Speaker Bhavani Shankar Bhoi will give the vote of thanks.

The conference will be attended by the chairpersons and members of the committees on welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of Parliament and State Legislatures, ministers of the Odisha government and members of the Legislative Assembly. It will discuss strengthening constitutional measures for empowerment of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, promoting socio-economic development and exchange of best practices. Along with this, the role of committees in achieving the goal of inclusive and developed India by the year 2047 will also be discussed.

The closing session will be held on August 30. Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will deliver the farewell address in this. On this occasion, Om Birla, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee Faggan Singh Kulaste, Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly Surma Padhi, Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo and Pravati Parida will address the assembly. On the closing occasion, the vote of thanks will be given by the Chairman of the Committee of Odisha Legislative Assembly, Bhaskar Madhei.

It is worth mentioning that the first conference of the committees on welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was held in New Delhi in 1976. After this, conferences were also organized in 1979, 1983, 1987 and 2001. This time this conference is being organized outside Delhi for the first time.
