West Singhbhum: The historic Vaitarni bridge connecting Jharkhand and Odisha in West Singhbhum district is now in danger. This bridge located on NH-20 is considered the backbone of the social, commercial and health facilities of the area, but at present its condition has become moribund. Regarding the condition of the bridge, BJP state vice-president and former minister Badkunwar Gagrai inspected the site on Wednesday and has given a warning to the administration that if the repair work is not started within 15 days, then the BJP will start an indefinite dharna on the bridge itself.
Gagarai said that big potholes have formed on the bridge, the rods have come out and there is no safety wall. The bridge starts shaking even with the passage of light vehicles and the situation becomes even more horrific due to heavy vehicles. He said that due to the negligence of the government, this life-giving bridge has now become a path of death. Due to the administration's inaction, the local youth made the bridge temporarily useful by donating their labour, but a permanent solution is necessary.
Many local leaders and villagers including Madhu Mahato, Satyapal Behera, Subhash Singha, Arjun Sardar, Sanjay Barik, Shambhu Gupta and Durga Behera were present during the inspection.
