Varanasi: Electricity employees protested fiercely against privatization in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Employees gathered at various offices under the banner of Vidyut Karamchari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti Uttar Pradesh called the proposal of privatization of electricity and the unbridled increase in electricity rates anti-people.

Employee leaders also demanded the Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath to effectively intervene in this matter and cancel it in public interest. Along with making the privatization document and draft standard bidding document public, questions were also raised on the collusion of Discom Association with private houses and meter companies. The Sangharsh Samiti has said that the process of privatization of 42 districts of Uttar Pradesh in Yogi Adityanath's government of zero tolerance against corruption is not transparent. The RFP document of privatization has been prepared in collusion with some private houses. When the transaction consultant was appointed for the privatization of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, it was written in that document that the transaction consultant will help Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation in privatization. For this, Draft Standard Bidding Document 2020 will be considered as the basis. E. Mayashankar Tiwari, E. Neeraj Bind, Ankur Pandey, E.S.K. Singh, Rohit Kumar, Pankaj Yadav, Brijesh Yadav, Amit Kumar, Arun Kumar etc. participated in the protest.
