MACT Orders Attachment of Four Bihar State Road Transport Corporation Buses; One Bus Seized and Parked at Ranchi Civil Court

Ranchi, October 31, 2026: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has faced strict court action for failing to pay compensation to the family of a man who died in a road accident. Acting on an attachment warrant issued by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Ranchi, a BSRTC bus was seized on Friday and brought to the Ranchi Civil Court premises. The case relates to Motor Accident Claim Case No. 238/2023, in which the tribunal ordered BSRTC in 2024 to pay ₹93,38,294 as compensation to Munni Devi, wife of deceased Vibhuti Prasad Singh, and their three children. The compensation carries 7.5% annual interest from May 26, 2023, until the date of payment, taking the total outstanding amount to ₹1,15,10,126.

After the corporation failed to pay the compensation for a prolonged period, the victim's family filed an execution petition (Misc. Case No. 23/2025). The court subsequently issued attachment warrants for four BSRTC buses bearing registration numbers BR-01PL-9620, BR-01PL-7533, BR-01PL-7534 and BR-02PC-2620. A team led by Civil Court Nazir Zeeshan Iqbal, along with advocate Pradeep Kumar Agarwal representing the victim's family, conducted a raid at the Ranchi bus depot. However, only one of the four buses was found and immediately seized before being brought to the court premises.

BSRTC had earlier approached the tribunal seeking the recall of the ex-parte order, but its application was rejected. The corporation subsequently approached the Jharkhand High Court. On April 17, 2026, the court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi dismissed its review petition, observing that there was no error in the earlier judgment and that such petitions amounted to an abuse of the judicial process. Following the High Court's decision, the attachment proceedings have intensified pressure on BSRTC to clear the outstanding compensation. The seized bus will be released only after the corporation pays the entire outstanding amount of approximately ₹1.15 crore.
