New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit on Friday. This was the second meeting between the two leaders this year. They had earlier met on August 31, 2026, on the sidelines of the 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across several key areas, including politics, economy, defence, energy, space, skill development and people-to-people ties.

Modi and Putin Visit INNOPROM India

The two leaders welcomed INNOPROM India, Russia’s international industrial exhibition, which was held in India for the first time from September 9 to 11, 2026. They underlined the importance of the exhibition in further expanding trade and industrial ties between India and Russia.

Prime Minister Modi and President Putin also visited the exhibition and interacted with participants.

Discuss Regional and Global Issues

The leaders exchanged views on India-Russia engagement in multilateral forums, particularly BRICS, during India’s presidency in 2026. They also discussed major regional and global issues of mutual interest, including conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region, which have affected maritime trade and the safety of Indian seafarers.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward for resolving conflicts and said that India remains ready to support peace efforts.

Putin Invites Modi to Russia

The two leaders agreed to continue efforts to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia, which has continued to demonstrate resilience and record significant progress amid geopolitical uncertainties.

President Putin invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit. Prime Minister Modi accepted the invitation.

The dates for the summit will be finalized through diplomatic channels based on mutual convenience.
