Jharkhand/Chatra( M Bharat 24 News Live): Patthalgada police in Chatra district have arrested two smugglers and seized illegal opium worth nearly ₹27 lakh. The operation led to the recovery of 5.470 kg of opium, a Hyundai i20 car, and two mobile phones.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal said that acting on a secret tip-off, a joint team led by Simariya SDPO Shubham Kumar Khandelwal, Patthalgada Police Station in-charge Rakesh Kumar, SI Vijay Kumar, and armed police personnel intercepted the suspects and recovered 5.472 kg of illegal opium from their possession.
The police seized the Hyundai i20 car used in the smuggling operation and two mobile phones. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Vikram Kumar, a resident of Amin village under Gidhaur police station, and Rajan Kumar, a resident of Unta Mod under Sadar police station area. Vikram had earlier been jailed in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, under the NDPS Act.
The SP stated that information was received that a four-wheeler transporting a large consignment of illegal narcotics would pass near Santoshi Mata Temple in Bandarchuwa under Patthalgada police station limits. Following this, a raid team was formed under the leadership of the Simariya SDPO.
During the operation, the team stopped a suspicious Hyundai i20 (JH-01FF-5114) coming from the opposite direction near the route heading towards Lemboiya. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the opium, and both Vikram and Rajan were taken into custody.
The SP further informed that Vikram had previously been sent to jail by the Bareilly Police in Uttar Pradesh for a case registered under the NDPS Act. After interrogation, both smugglers were sent to jail.
