Crowd at Block Day, but Work Disrupted as Jharnet Remains Down
Ranchi: The Block Day/Janata Darbar organized every Tuesday has emerged as an important initiative for addressing public grievances. A large number of people attend the programme with their complaints. Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri closely monitors the functioning of Block Day and reviews its effectiveness. Up to this point, the system appears well-managed, but the situation that follows is worrying.
Jharnet Down, Online Work Affected
Jharnet, the state-level network of the Jharkhand government that connects all government offices, has been facing persistent technical glitches. The network provides data services, VoIP calling and video conferencing, and is linked from the state headquarters to district and block offices.
Since most government work at the block level is conducted online, uninterrupted internet connectivity is essential. However, with Jharnet frequently remaining non-functional, official work comes to a standstill. Employees log in, but before they can enter the OTP, the session expires and they are logged out. This continues throughout the day, leading to disposal of only four to five applications.
People Troubled, Solutions in Limbo
People arrive at Block Day with the hope that their issues will be resolved. But due to the irregular functioning of Jharnet, files fail to move forward, leaving the public disappointed. There is no clear answer as to when Jharnet will start functioning smoothly or when the problem will be resolved.
