21 Injured in Violent Clash Over Land Dispute in Palamu

Jharkhand/Palamu: A long-standing land dispute turned violent in Chorahi village under Hussainabad police station area of Palamu district on Wednesday, leaving 21 people injured. The clash broke out between two factions of the same family over possession of a disputed piece of land.

According to reports, one group began fencing the land with barbed wire to assert its ownership, which was strongly opposed by the other side, claiming the land was still under litigation and that no construction or fencing should be carried out. The argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, with men and women from both sides attacking each other with sticks and rods.

Several people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Hussainabad, where the situation was chaotic due to the large number of injured individuals.

Among the injured are Ashok Mehta, Vijay Mehta, Phulawanti Devi, and Sarita Devi, along with several others from both sides.

Sources said one of the parties had earlier submitted a written complaint regarding the dispute to the Circle Officer, but no action was taken, allowing tensions to build further. Locals informed the police about the confrontation, but officers reportedly declined to intervene, citing it as a civil land matter.

Local villagers eventually managed to separate the two groups and bring the situation under control. Police have since taken note of the incident and further investigation is underway.
