Jharkhand/Ranchi: A case of illegal occupation of a Dalit family's ancestral land in Chandni Maidan, Kantatoli, by strongmen from a particular community has come to light. Chhotu Ram's family is alleged to have forcibly occupied the land using a JCB on September 28th. Upon protest, the strongmen even installed a CCTV camera in front of their house to monitor the family's activities.
The victim's family alleges that a Jharkhand Police officer is among the encroachers, abusing his position and threatening them. Former Jharkhand Minister and former Leader of the Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, who arrived at the scene, clashed with the land grabbers and pressured Chhotu Ram to vacate the land. This escalated the situation.
Police arrived at the scene and somehow calmed the dispute. Amar Kumar Bauri, describing it as a very serious matter, spoke to the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi by phone and asked him to immediately stop any work at the disputed site. After this the Deputy Commissioner issued instructions to stop the work.
