Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 5,200 crore in Kolkata today

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kolkata today is going to be a historic occasion. From the city roads to the metro stations, vigorous preparations have been made to welcome him everywhere. Life-size cutouts of Modi have been installed at various places and the roads decorated with flowers are giving the message of 'Developed Bangla, Developed India'.Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information and Publicity) of Railway Board, said that Friday will be a historic day for Kolkata. The Prime Minister will dedicate the metro lines to the nation.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 5,200 crore here. The most special occasion will be the launch of metro service on the 'Noapara-Jai Hind Biman Bandar' section from Jessore Road. The Prime Minister himself will travel in this metro and will also interact with school children. According to the official programme, Modi will dedicate the 13.61 km long metro network to the nation at 4:15 pm, which also includes the Sealdah-Esplanade and Beleghata-Hemant Mukhopadhyay sections. These routes will reduce travel time drastically. The journey on the Sealdah-Esplanade section will now take just 11 minutes instead of 40 minutes.

Cultural programmes will also be organised at Jessore Road Metro Station. Artists will give a special performance on the theme of 'Durga Puja'. Passengers described the new services as a big gift for the public. A passenger said, "The country has made great progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The new metro services will save people's time."

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed subway at Howrah Metro Station and also lay the foundation stone of the 7.2 km long six-lane elevated Kona Expressway to be built at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. This will give new impetus to connectivity of Howrah, Kolkata and surrounding areas and will boost business and tourism.
