Action will be taken against those who encroach on the river bank: Bhajantri


Ranchi:An important meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri regarding the conservation and encroachment free of Ranchi's rivers, ponds, dams and other water sources. In the meeting, the updated status of encroachment around the major water sources of the city and rural areas was reviewed.

The Deputy Commissioner took the progress report of removing encroachment from Kanke, Hatia and Getalsud Dams including Harmu, Hinoo and Bhusur rivers and major ponds of the city. He directed the concerned zonal officers to remove the identified encroachers to whom notices have been issued soon. Also, on the basis of the original map of all the water sources, their size was marked and the surrounding government land was ordered to be freed from encroachment.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Additional Collector to prepare a roster, on the basis of which the zonal officers will take action in their respective areas. While also reviewing the encroachment situation in Panchsheel Nagar area, the Deputy Commissioner ordered immediate action in accordance with the revenue map.

Bhajantri said that water sources are very important for our life and environment. Their conservation is the priority of the administration and citizens are also expected not to encroach around water sources and cooperate in efforts for water conservation.

Sub-divisional Officer Sadar Utkarsh Kumar, Municipal Corporation officials, Executive Engineer of PHED and officials from various zones were present in the meeting.
