Ranchi, November 3, 2026: Doctors at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, have successfully saved the life of a 9-year-old girl suffering from Type-1 diabetes, a severe diabetic emergency and acute kidney failure. At the time of admission, the child was in critical condition and unable to breathe independently, requiring immediate ventilator support. She remained on the ventilator for 12 days under continuous medical supervision and also underwent four rounds of dialysis due to impaired kidney function.
With continuous treatment and dedicated medical care, the girl's condition gradually improved. She was successfully taken off ventilator support and regained the ability to breathe normally. Her kidney function also showed significant improvement. Currently, she is stable, eating normally and her blood sugar levels are being controlled through regular insulin injections. Doctors are preparing to discharge her, although her kidney function will continue to be monitored regularly.
The treatment was carried out under the guidance of Dr. (Prof.) P. K. Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, with the support of Dr. Pragya Pant and Dr. Utkarsh Mishra from the Department of Nephrology. The girl's family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and the entire RIMS medical team for their dedicated efforts in saving her life. The successful treatment highlights the importance of timely medical intervention and specialised care in managing critical medical emergencies among children.
