Hemant Soren inspected the shooting range and issued instructions for improvements
Ranchi, July 6, 2026: Chief Minister Hemant Soren conducted a surprise inspection of the Tikait Umrao Singh Shooting Range complex at Khelgaon, Ranchi, on Monday. During the visit, he assessed the infrastructure, the condition of equipment, facilities available to athletes, and security arrangements. The Chief Minister expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding the maintenance and current state of the complex and instructed officials to implement immediate improvements.
While inspecting the 10-meter, 25-meter, and 50-meter ranges, the Chief Minister inquired about training protocols, the availability of modern equipment, and facilities supporting athlete practice. He remarked that Jharkhand is a land of sporting talent and that providing world-class facilities to its athletes is a priority for the government.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a concrete action plan for the comprehensive development of the shooting range and to implement it within a set timeframe. He stated that talented athletes from rural and remote areas would be provided with a better platform so they could bring glory to the state in national and international competitions.
He issued instructions to upgrade equipment, improve maintenance, strengthen CCTV surveillance systems, and ensure robust security standards. He also inquired about mock drills involving fire extinguishers and hydrants and directed that regular drills be conducted.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister also tried his hand at shooting with a rifle and interacted with athletes practicing at the venue to understand their needs.
Departmental Minister Sudivya Kumar, State Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Sports Department Secretary Mukesh Kumar, and several other senior officials were present on the occasion.
