DLSA Organizes Awareness Camp at Birsa Munda Central Jail; 14 Cases Heard


Ranchi: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi, organized a ‘Jail Court-cum-Legal Awareness Program’ on Sunday at the Birsa Munda Central Jail, Hotwar. The objective of the program was to provide legal aid to inmates and to raise awareness regarding their reintegration into the mainstream of society.


This event was organized under the directives of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad (Executive Chairman, JHALSA), and under the guidance of Kumari Ranjana Asthana (Member Secretary, JHALSA) and Anil Kumar Mishra-I (Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi). Kushweshwar Shanku, the Secretary-in-Charge of DLSA, was present at the program.


During the Jail Court session, applications from a total of 14 inmates were presented before the court, resulting in relief being granted to one inmate. Present on this occasion were Railway Judicial Magistrate Vijay Yadav, members of the LADC team, officials from the jail administration, Community PLVs (Para-Legal Volunteers), and court staff.


The program was anchored by Assistant LADC Birendra Pratap. He apprised the inmates of their rights and the availability of free legal aid. Meanwhile, the Railway Judicial Magistrate encouraged the inmates to bring about positive changes in their lives, to live with dignity within society, and to seek gainful employment.


DLSA Secretary-in-Charge Kushweshwar Shanku stated that various legal facilities are made available to inmates through the initiatives of NALSA, JHALSA, and DLSA. He appealed to the inmates to present their grievances and issues before the members of the LADC team.


Alongside the legal awareness camp, a health check-up camp was also organized during the event, where medical examinations of the inmates were conducted.


Present on this occasion were Jail Superintendent Kumar Chandrashekhar, Jailor Lavkush Kumar, members of the LADC, jail staff, inmates, and other attendees.
