Buses Set on Fire While Suspect Was Intoxicated: Police
Ranchi: Police have cracked the case of the arson incidents that occurred at the Khadgarha bus stand in recent days. On February 1, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, six buses parked at the Khadgarha bus stand suddenly caught fire, causing panic. While the investigation was underway, on February 2, 2026, an attempt was also made to set fire to a city bus (registration number JH01AF-6969) parked in front of the bus terminal, but the fire was extinguished in time.
CCTV footage revealed that just before the fire started, a man entered the bus carrying a piece of cloth, and the bus caught fire immediately after he exited. The investigation also revealed that the same person was present at the scene five minutes before the first bus caught fire on February 1st.
Police have registered a case under Lower Bazaar Police Station Case Number 31/2026 and arrested the accused, Arjun Bhokta (32 years old), a resident of Pipra Tola, Sikidari Police Station, Ranchi district. A matchbox and a lighter were recovered from the accused. According to the police, the accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident and committed the arson while under the influence of Drugs.
