Allegation of Giving 16 kg Ration Instead of 20; Beneficiaries Angered by “Put Your Thumb or Leave” Remark
Ranchi: Serious allegations of irregularities in ration distribution have surfaced at a Public Distribution System (PDS) shop operated by the Chando Self-Help Group in Ward No. 32 under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation. Beneficiaries allege that instead of the mandated 20 kg of ration, they are being forcibly given only 16 kg of grain. When they protested, the shop operator allegedly retorted, “If 16 kg is acceptable, put your thumb impression; otherwise, leave.” This remark sparked widespread anger among the beneficiaries present.
Beneficiaries further alleged that this cut is not a one-time issue but a recurring practice every month, justified by the excuse of “reduced supply from above.” They said such deductions amount to a direct theft of their rightful entitlement. For poor households, even four kilograms of grain is crucial, and the shortfall directly affects their daily meals.
Local residents have demanded a fair investigation, strict action against those responsible, and assurance of full ration entitlements. They warned that if prompt action is not taken, they will launch protests.
In this connection, the special correspondent of M Bharat 24 News Live made multiple attempts to contact District Supply Officer Ram Gopal Pandey by phone, but could not establish contact.
