Ranchi. The picture has become clear regarding the long-awaited urban local body elections in Jharkhand. The State Election Commission has issued the notification for the municipal elections. As per the announced schedule, voting will be held on February 23, 2026 across 48 urban local bodies in the state, while results will be declared on February 27, 2026 after the counting of votes.
According to the State Election Commission, polling will take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Under the election programme, nomination papers will be filed from January 29 to February 4. Scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on February 5, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 6, and election symbols will be allotted on February 7.
This will be the first urban local body election in the state after completion of the triple test process. The elections will cover 9 Municipal Corporations, 20 Municipal Councils, and 19 Nagar Panchayats. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issues related to reservation, these elections are being held for the first time since 2020.
State Election Commissioner said that all preparations have been completed and the elections will be conducted in a free, fair, peaceful, and transparent manner. She appealed to voters to exercise their democratic right and participate in large numbers in the polling process.
