The Union Finance Minister made this statement in Gandhinagar during the launch of the nationwide awareness campaign "Your Capital, Your Right" on unclaimed assets in the financial sector. Sitharaman launched the three-month "Your Capital, Your Right" campaign from Gandhinagar in the presence of State Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai and senior officials from banks and the Finance Ministry.
Finance Minister Sitharaman stated that banks and regulators have unclaimed financial assets worth ₹1.84 lakh crore in the form of bank deposits, insurance, provident funds, or shares. Sitharaman said, "I want to ask everyone here to become ambassadors of this campaign. Please contact your contacts and ask if they have any unclaimed financial assets."
She urged officials to work on the three "As"—awareness, outreach, and action—to return these unclaimed assets to their rightful owners during this three-month campaign. She said, "Help guide people to register on the portal and claim their assets." According to the Department of Financial Services, ₹184,000 crore is lying there. It is safe.
The Finance Minister said, "I can assure you that it is completely safe. You can come whenever you want with the proper documents. The money will be given to you. The government is its custodian. It could be through the bank or SEBI. It could be through any other agency, but it is in safe custody."
