Nagaland's soldier Mayangam was the winner of the 14th Nainital Monsoon Mountain Marathon

Uttarakhand/Nainital: The 14th edition of the Nainital Mountain Monsoon Marathon (NM-3) was organized on Sunday at the Nainital district headquarters of Uttarakhand under the aegis of the organization dedicated to running, 'Run to Live'. Mayangam Lungleng won the most attractive 21.1 km marathon race of the competition with a total prize money of Rs 3,67,000 by completing it in one hour 17 minutes and 8 seconds. Santosh Joshi was second with a margin of about 1 minute and Ravi Chaudhary was third with a margin of about 4 minutes.

In the women's category, Arpita Saini, Anisha, Sadhna, Maya and Anju were in the first five positions. The competition was attractive in other categories as well. In this race, which is included in the world's most difficult treks, many national level runners along with international level runners from the African country Kenya also ran amidst light drizzle of rain and they praised its thrill a lot.

This prestigious competition, which is usually held on the fourth Sunday of August, was held for the first time this year in the month of September due to the Nanda Devi Festival during that time, but during this time the atmosphere lived up to its name with the drizzle of monsoon. State Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal distributed the prizes of the marathon competition along with other dignitaries. In the special attraction 'Run for Fun' category, 15 participants were also given prizes worth Rs. 25,000 through lucky draw. Earlier, the competition started at 7 am from the historic flats ground of Nainital. International runner Harish Tiwari, head of Run to Live organization, said that this year the highest number of runners participated in the competition so far, about 200 in 21.1 km race, about 350 in 10 km, about 800 in 5 and 4 km and 500 in Run For, that is, a total of about 1800 runners participated.

Many young volunteers including Ravikant Raju, Alok Sah, Manish Mohan Joshi, Harish Nayal, Vasu Sah and BS Kalakoti participated in the event. It was conducted by Naveen Pandey and Hemant Bisht. During this, the theme song of the competition was also liked.

In the 21.1 km race, in the men's category, Mayangam Lungleng, Santosh Joshi, Ravi Chaudhary, Shiva Kundu, Robin Yadav, Pramod Patni, Rohit, Paul Kemei of Kenya, Rahul Bisht were awarded by securing top 10 positions. In the 5 km race for boys, Raghavendra Bisht, Krishna Bisht, Piyush Mer, Neeraj Rawat and Kartik Bisht and in the girls, Divya Mehra, Rajni Lodhiyal, Jiya Mahori, Lavanya Rawat and Manisha were in the first 5 places. In the 4 km race, Sashwat, Vidit Kohli, Adarsh, Hemank Bisht and Harshit Rawat won among boys and Kanak Parche, Yashasvi Ghughiyal, Jagriti, Akanksha and Samridhi Rawat won among girls. In the same race, Kalam Singh Bisht, Sabal Singh and Sameen Kolya among men in the age group of 45 to 55 and Kanta Devi among women and Mukesh Rana, Mahesh Singh and TD Bisht above 55 years of age who ran this race were specially awarded.

Apart from these, Manoj Singh, Virendra Rawat, Amardeep, Kengim, Ashish Rawat, Pushkar Bisht, Aman Bisht, Neeraj Sharma, Dinesh Singh and Santosh Chandra in the 10 km boys category and Ruby Kashyap, Pooja Bisht, Anjali, Megha Goswami, Deepa Negi, Bina Baida, Kamala, Khushi Goswami, Samridhi Bisht and Kalavati in the girls category were awarded.

Along with this, in the age group of 45 to 55, Rajendra Prasad Joshi, Nandan Singh, Saurabh Thapliyal, Anil Yadav and Mahesh Bhatt in men and Durga Pirsali, Dr. Jyoti Raj Prasad, Vijay Laxmi, Kritika Garbyal and Neha Lal in women and in the age group of more than 55, Ghanshyam Pandey, Ghananand Pandey, Dinesh Chandra, Awadhesh Kumar and Suresh Lohia in men and Neema Bisht, Neema Bhandari and Rekha Lohia in women were awarded by securing top positions respectively.
