Uttar Pradesh/Varanasi: Due to lunar eclipse, Maa Ganga's Aarti was performed with rituals in the religious city of Kashi in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday in the afternoon. Maa Ganga's Aarti was performed during the day for the 5th time in 35 years in the religious city. Due to the flood here during this period, devotees were deprived of seeing the Ganga Aarti during the day.
Due to lunar eclipse, the evening Aarti of Maa Ganga was performed by Gangotri Seva Samiti at the ancient Dashashwamedh Ghat and Ganga Seva Nidhi at Dashashwamedh Ghat in the afternoon before the Sutak period began. Gangotri Seva Samiti President Pt. Kishori Raman Dubey told reporters that this is the 5th time in 35 years that Maa Ganga's Aarti was performed during the day. Earlier, on 28 October 2023, 16 July 2019, 27 July 2018 and 7 August 2017, the time of Aarti was changed for the same reason. At present, due to the increased water level of Ganga, Aarti was organized on the roof of the ghat.
Ganga Seva Nidhi President Sushant Mishra said that before the Sutak period of lunar eclipse, the Aarti of Mother Ganga was performed in its traditional way starting from 12 noon before the Sutak period. From the year 1991, Late Pandit Satendra Mishra started the Aarti of Mother Ganga at Dashashwamedh Ghat. This was the 5th time in 35 years that the Aarti of Mother Ganga was performed during the day, many devotees and tourists were also witnesses to this moment. He told that
Due to the increase in the water level of Ganga, the Aarti of Bhagwati Mother Ganga is being performed on the roof at this time. Due to heavy flood in Ganga for the third time this season, Ganga Aarti was started on the roof after changing the venue. According to Vedic traditions, Ganga Aarti was performed on the roof by the priests.
