Crowd of women devotees gathered on Ganga Ghats for Jitiya festival

Bihar/Bhagalpur: Jitiya festival started on Saturday with Nahaye-Khaye. On this occasion, crowd of women gathered for bathing at various Ganga Ghats of the city. Devotee women took bath in Ganga from morning itself and started performing religious rituals.

It is believed that food is consumed only after bathing in Ganga. Seeing the crowd of devotees, the district administration was alert. Disaster friend and police force were deployed on Ganga Ghats for security. Special arrangements were also made by the administration for cleanliness and crowd control. Jitiya festival has special significance.

Women observe this fast to wish for long life, happiness, prosperity and healthy life of their children. This festival starts with Nahaye-Khaye which concludes with fasting and worship the next day. On the other hand, a large crowd of women from Bihar, Jharkhand and other places was seen at Ajaibinath Dham in Sultanganj. Especially in Ajai Vinath Dham, a huge crowd of women was seen to take bath in Ganga and do puja. When a woman drowned in Ganga in the early morning, the NDRF team saved her life and sent her to referral hospital for treatment by ambulance.

Mahant Premanand Giri of Ajai Vinath temple also told that there is a huge crowd of women on Ganga Ghat during Jitiya festival. Women celebrate this festival to wish for long life of their son.
