Alcaraz beats Djokovic to reach US Open 2025 final

 

America/New York: Second seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2 on Friday to enter the US Open final. The much-anticipated match played at Arthur Ashe Stadium attracted a huge crowd of spectators and the match lived up to expectations and presented a thrilling style.

2022 champion Alcaraz sealed the victory amid resonant applause and slogans on match point. He hit double winner shots against his opponent who is 16 years older than him.

After the match, Alcaraz said, "It is a great feeling to reach the US Open final once again and it means a lot to me. It was a very physical match."

In the first set, Djokovic lost his serve early and did not get a chance to create any break point. Alcaraz won the first set with a powerful serve.

In the second set, seventh seed Djokovic tried to make a comeback and got a break in the second game with a brilliant backhand. But Alcaraz won a long rally in the fifth game to create a break point and regained the lead.

After trailing 0-2 in the tiebreak, Djokovic pleased the crowd with his brilliant net play, but Alcaraz maintained his lead with two consecutive powerful serves and won the second set as well.

In the third set, Djokovic's double fault gave Alcaraz an early lead. Eventually, another double fault and a wide forehand ended the match. After the match, Djokovic smiled and leaned over the net to congratulate Alcaraz.

Alcaraz will now face the winner between defending champion Yannick Sinner and 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the final.
