Ranchi: On Sunday, there was a clash between the administration and the protesters over the land acquired for the proposed Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences-02 (RIMS-2) in Nagdi, Ranchi. Hundreds of protesters and the police clashed, in which tear gas shells and lathis were used. Many protesters were also detained. The administration had surrounded the land of the proposed RIMS-2 in Nagdi under Kanke zone of Ranchi district from all sides. Every road was blocked by putting up barricades. There was strict surveillance on all the roads of the city. Heavy police force was deployed. Despite this, the agitating farmers reached the land of RIMS 2 and demonstrated there under the 'Khet Joto, Ropa Ropo' movement and ploughed the acquired land.
Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha (JLKM) leader Devendra Mahato reached there with his supporters and started farming by ploughing and planted the Sarna flag on that land. Meanwhile, when the administration and police started taking action, the atmosphere became tense. To remove the protesting people, the police used force (lathicharge) and fired tear gas shells. This action created chaos on the spot.
The protesting farmers, tribal men and women reached the land of RIMS-2 through the footpaths of the fields wearing the mask of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. The people who reached there started ploughing the fields and planting saplings. To join this movement, hundreds of villagers from many areas including Latehar, Lohardaga, Bijupada, Hatma, Bedon had reached to save agricultural land. The villagers say that Jharkhand has turned 25 years old, but even now efforts are being made to build a hospital by snatching their agricultural land. The tribal society said that they will not leave even an inch of their land and will intensify the movement.
Tight security arrangements were made by the administration to stop the protest of the farmers. A large number of security forces were deployed from Kanke Road to Nagdi. Many officials including SDM, ADM Law and Order, Rural SP were present in Nagdi, Ranchi.
Some leaders have been taken into custody even before joining the 'Khet Joto, Ropa Ropo' movement. Four agitators have also been taken into custody by the police and kept in Kanke police station. They include Vikas Oraon and Sita Kachhap of Nagdi village, besides Nandi Kachhap and Phulkeria Toppo. The tribal society of Mandar and Lohardaga and their leaders were stopped at Tilata Chowk in Ratu, about five kilometers before Nagdi. Ramkumar Pahan and Gangotri Kujur have also been taken into custody. Despite this, the protesters reached there and plowed.
Rural SP Praveen Pushkar said in this regard that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the entire area. The crowd was trying to create a ruckus and was trying to enter the restricted area. To stop this, tear gas has been used by the police. The situation is under control at the moment. The police is monitoring the situation.
