Jailed notorious Naxal Kundan Pahan acquitted

 

Ranchi: Jailed notorious Naxal Kundan Pahan has got a big relief from the court. Kundan Pahan has been acquitted in the 2008 robbery of 5 crore 17 lakh cash and 1.5 kg gold in Tamar, adjacent to Ranchi. He was acquitted on Wednesday by the court of Additional Justice Commissioner Anand Prakash due to lack of evidence and proof. Let us tell you that during the hearing, the prosecution had recorded the testimony of six witnesses in the case, but could not prove the allegations against the suspect. All the witnesses refused to identify the notorious Kundan Pahan.

          Let us remind you here that on 21 May 2008, ICICI Bank's cash van was looted in Tamar area adjacent to the capital Ranchi. The cash van had 5 crore 17 lakh cash and 1.5 kg gold. The name of notorious Naxal Kundan Pahan had cropped up a lot in this robbery. Let us tell you that Kundan Pahan, who is in jail, has many serious charges against him. Kundan Pahan is also accused of slitting the throat of Inspector Francis Indwar and keeping him on the road. Apart from this, the notorious Kundan Pahan is accused of murdering former minister Ramesh Singh Munda, killing MP Sunil Mahato, killing 6 police personnel including DSP Pramod Kumar Singh and looting their weapons after killing 35 policemen in an encounter.

Who is Kundan Pahan?

Kundan has been the zonal commander of CPI Maoist. Many cases of brutal Naxalite violence are registered against him. Kundan is considered a dreaded killer. He used to enjoy killing someone ruthlessly. The police had only one unclear photo of him. Kundan is accused of being involved in many cases including the murder of Bundu MLA Ramesh Singh Munda, murder of 6 policemen including Bundu DSP Pramod Kumar, loot of Rs 5.5 crore and one kg gold from ICICI Bank, murder of MP Sunil Mahato, murder of Police Inspector Francis Indwar.

          Kundan Pahan is a resident of Barahatu village of Bundu police station area. Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi has played a role in Kundan's surrender. More than 100 cases are registered against Kundan Pahan in various police stations. He was synonymous with terror in Ranchi and Khunti district for a long time. He was associated with the organization for 15 years. He became a Naxalite after a land dispute with his gotiya in the village. One of Kundan's brothers surrendered in January, while the other was arrested from Yamunanagar in Haryana in February. Recently, Naxalite Nakul Yadav, who had a reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head, surrendered in Jharkhand.

           Kundan Pahan is accused of kidnapping Inspector Francis Indwar of Jharkhand Police's Special Branch and then slitting his throat and killing him. The inspector's severed head was found lying in the middle of Ranchi-Tata road in Taimara Valley. He also killed Bundu's DSP Pramod Kumar. He shot dead Minister Ramesh Singh Munda. He looted five crore rupees and one and a half kg gold from a private bank in Tamar area on Ranchi-Tata Road.

Kundan Pahan was a challenge for Ranchi Police

Naxal Kundan Pahan had been a challenge for Ranchi Police for the last one and a half decade. Ever since he joined the organization, he strengthened the CPI Maoist in Khunti and Ranchi. He had raised a large army of cadres on his own strength. Most of them were tribal youths. These youths were ready to do anything on his orders.

            Once he attacked the patrolling police in Adki Bazaar. He looted all the weapons of the police. In Khunti's Rania area too, policemen were blown up in an explosion and their weapons were looted. In 2002, weapons were looted from policemen in Ranchi Patratu Valley.
