India Fully Alert Amidst West Asia Tensions; Fuel Supply Normal; Safe Repatriation of Over 700,000 Citizens
New Delhi, April 5, 2026 — Amidst the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Government of India has ensured comprehensive and robust management regarding the country's energy supply, citizen safety, and transportation systems. The government has clarified that the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG remains completely normal, and citizens have been advised to refrain from panic buying or unnecessary hoarding of any kind.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, fuel availability across the country remains smooth. To make the LPG distribution system more transparent and efficient, the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system has been rapidly implemented; its coverage has surged from 53 percent in February 2026 to reach 90 percent currently. Online LPG bookings have also risen to 95 percent.
The government has appealed to citizens to utilize digital channels for booking LPG cylinders and to avoid crowding gas agencies unless absolutely necessary. Additionally, citizens are being encouraged to adopt alternative fuels such as PNG, induction cooktops, and electric cooktops.
In terms of LPG supply, over 5.1 million domestic cylinders are being distributed daily, and there have been no reports of supply disruptions anywhere. Furthermore, 5-kilogram FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinders—available without the requirement of an address proof—have witnessed a surge in demand, with over 90,000 cylinders sold in a single day.
Significant progress has also been recorded in the natural gas sector. Since March 2026, approximately 360,000 PNG connections have been activated, while over 390,000 new consumers have registered for the service. The government is also prioritizing the expansion of the City Gas Distribution network.
The situation regarding crude oil and refinery operations remains stable. All refineries are operating at full capacity, and adequate reserves of petrol and diesel are available within the country. Despite the rise in crude oil prices in the international market, the Central Government has reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per liter to provide relief to consumers.
The situation in the maritime sector also remains completely under control. According to the government, all Indian seafarers are safe, and no incidents involving any Indian-flagged vessels have been reported over the past 24 hours. Operations at ports across the country are continuing as usual.
The Ministry of External Affairs is continuously monitoring the situation in the Gulf and West Asia region. Indian embassies and missions are providing every possible assistance to Indian citizens residing there. So far, since February 28, more than 702,000 Indian citizens have safely returned home. Additionally, 345 Indian fishermen stranded in Iran have been safely repatriated.
The government has directed states and Union Territories to maintain strict vigilance against hoarding, black marketing, and the spread of rumors. To this end, arrangements for control rooms, helplines, and regular press briefings have also been put in place. Since March, over 50,000 LPG cylinders have been seized, and action has been taken against several distributors.
The government has appealed to citizens to rely solely on information obtained from official sources and to cooperate in the conservation of energy. Overall, despite the tense situation in West Asia, fuel supply, transportation, and civil security arrangements in India remain completely normal and under control.
