2.7 million electricity workers to go on a nationwide strike on February 12th
New Delhi/ February 11th: Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF), has announced that approximately 2.7 million electricity workers and engineers across the country will go on a one-day nationwide strike on February 12th. The strike is being held to protest the privatization of the power sector, to withdraw the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the proposed National Electricity Policy 2026, and to demand the restoration of the old pension scheme. According to the Federation, the United Kisan Morcha and ten central trade unions will also support the movement. The strike's main demands include a ban on outsourcing, recruitment to regular positions, and the regularization of outsourced workers.
