Ranchi, September 23, 2026: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ranchi, to ensure effective control over chain-snatching incidents in the city and expedite the investigation and detection of previously reported cases.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police (City), Superintendent of Police (Rural), Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kotwali), Probationer Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (City), Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar), and all Station House Officers.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the pattern of chain-snatching incidents, sensitive locations, suspected routes used by criminals, and available technical evidence. Several important directions were issued to strengthen crime prevention.
Hotspots and sensitive areas prone to chain-snatching will be identified, with regular and effective police patrolling and deployment of police personnel in plain clothes to be ensured in these locations.
Police officials have been directed to conduct case-wise and location-wise analysis of previous chain-snatching incidents and identify the pattern of crimes, possible routes used by offenders, and exit points.
CCTV footage available at crime scenes and along suspected routes will be systematically reviewed and analysed. In areas where CCTV cameras are not available, local residents and establishments will be encouraged to install surveillance cameras.
Effective police deployment and vehicle checking will be ensured along the suspected routes of criminals. Additional forces may also be deployed at sensitive locations whenever required.
SIT Formed for Quick Detection of Chain-Snatching Cases
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted for the speedy detection of chain-snatching cases. The Technical Cell has also been directed to analyse CCTV footage, mobile data, and other technical evidence to identify the offenders and trace their network.
Police are also carrying out profiling and verification of individuals previously involved in chain-snatching and similar offences. Special monitoring is being maintained on the activities of offenders who have recently been released from jail.
All Station House Officers have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure effective patrolling in markets, major intersections, crowded areas, and key locations frequented by women.
The SSP directed that a coordinated action plan combining field policing, technical surveillance, and verification of previously involved offenders be implemented to prevent chain-snatching incidents.
He further directed officers to ensure the speedy detection of previous cases and take effective legal action against the offenders involved and their networks.
