Ranchi, September 24, 2026: A special awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) was organised at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, with the support of the Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society (JSACS). The campaign featured an awareness rally and candlelight march aimed at encouraging people to adopt safe practices, undergo regular testing and seek timely treatment.
Doctors, healthcare workers, ANMTC students and representatives of the AIDS Control Society actively participated in the campaign. Dr. Tawa Rizvi, Dr. Sohan, District Programme Manager Praveen Kumar Singh, along with Kanchan and Naveen from the AIDS Control Society, were among those present.
During the rally, participants used posters and awareness messages to highlight the importance of safe behaviour, regular HIV testing and timely treatment. Messages such as “Knowledge About HIV Saves Lives” were displayed to educate the public. The campaign also stressed the need to eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV.
110 People Screened at Special Health Camp
Alongside the awareness campaign, ICTC, Sadar Hospital Ranchi organised a special health screening camp. A total of 110 people were screened during the camp.
The screening found no HIV-reactive cases, while one positive case of syphilis was identified. The concerned individual was provided medical counselling and appropriate guidance for further testing and treatment.
Focus on Awareness, Prevention and Ending Stigma
Healthcare workers and participants were also informed about HIV/AIDS transmission, preventive measures, regular testing and available treatment services.
The health authorities appealed to people to overcome misconceptions and hesitation surrounding HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. Citizens were encouraged to make use of confidential testing and counselling services at the nearest ICTC centre whenever required.
