Sawan Mahotsav Buzzes with Women's Enthusiasm; Eye Donation Awareness Campaign a Key Highlight
Ranchi: The second day of the three-day 27th Sawan Mahotsav, organized by the Women's Wing of Agarwal Sabha Ranchi at Maharaja Agrasen Bhawan, was marked by enthusiasm, high spirits, and social awareness. While the eye donation awareness campaign conveyed a message of humanitarian service, women also thoroughly enjoyed the *Sawan Sindhara* festivities, the *Jhoolotsav* (swing festival), cultural programs, and shopping.
Mayor Roshni Khalkho and Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar attended the event as chief guests. Renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Bharti Kashyap highlighted the importance of eye donation, explaining that eyes can be donated within six hours of a person's passing. She advised that after death, the eyes should be closed and covered with a piece of cotton, and the room's air conditioner (AC) should be turned on to preserve the eyes. Subsequently, upon notifying the nearest eye bank, a medical team arrives to complete the donation process. She emphasized that one person's eye donation can bring light into the lives of two others; therefore, everyone should come forward for this noble act of donation.
During the campaign, Mayor Roshni Khalkho, Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar, Agarwal Sabha office-bearers, and a large number of attendees supported the social initiative by filling out eye donation pledge forms. Eye donation awareness and registration activities continued at the fair throughout the day.
Mayor Roshni Khalkho stated that to take a virtuous cause like eye donation to the masses, it is essential to reach out to people and spread awareness. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar urged Dr. Bharti Kashyap to organize eye check-up and awareness camps across all 53 wards of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
During the *Sawan Sindhara* and *Jhoolotsav* events, women dressed in traditional attire enjoyed swinging, danced to *Sawan* (monsoon) songs, and participated in *Antakshari* and various entertaining games. Winners were awarded prizes, and everyone enjoyed delicious food.
Over 100 stalls set up at the fair remained a major attraction for the women. Women enthusiastically shopped for a wide range of specialty items from various cities, including Jaipuria jewelry; designer sarees from Banaras, Kolkata, and Bhagalpur; bridal lehengas; salwar suits; Indo-Western outfits; children's clothing; Rakhis; items for worship and personal grooming; handicrafts; and food products like pickles, papads, badis, and murabbas.
Office bearers of the Agarwal Sabha, Ranchi, and all members of the women's committee played an active role in making the event a success.
