Major Decision by CM Hemant Soren: 24-Hour Power, 200 Units Free, and High-Tech Energy Sector for Jharkhand

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took several significant decisions during a high-level review meeting of the Energy Department aimed at making the state's power system modern, robust, and citizen-friendly. He directed officials to ensure that all eligible consumers in the state receive the benefit of 200 units of free electricity on time and that quality, uninterrupted power supply is maintained across the state.
Through video conferencing, the Chief Minister reviewed the status of power supply, power grid projects, and pending issues with Deputy Commissioners from various districts, issuing instructions for their immediate resolution. He explicitly stated that complaints regarding power outages must be resolved permanently and that burnt-out transformers should be replaced within 24 hours to prevent any inconvenience to the general public.
It was also decided during the meeting to establish three new smart grids in Ranchi’s Kusai Colony, Bariatu, and Itki areas, which will make the power distribution system more modern and reliable. Additionally, new electrical substations will be constructed.
The Chief Minister directed the rapid implementation of AI-based monitoring systems, smart metering drives, and modern transmission networks within the energy sector. He noted that the use of new technologies would enhance the effectiveness of power supply management, grievance redressal, and project monitoring.
To boost the state's energy self-reliance, the Chief Minister ordered the acceleration of hydroelectric, floating solar, and rooftop solar projects. He instructed officials to study the potential of various waterfalls—including Hundru and Jonha—to increase hydroelectric generation and to formulate a plan to boost farmers' income by promoting solar farming on barren land.
The review meeting also saw announcements regarding the modernization and capacity expansion of the Sikidiri Hydroelectric Project, as well as the recruitment of personnel for vacant positions within the Energy Department. Instructions were issued to initiate the process of filling 35 percent of the vacant posts in the first phase. The Chief Minister also directed that uninterrupted 24-hour power supply and a dual-line system be ensured in all government hospitals across the state. Additionally, he emphasized the need to ensure the prompt resolution of consumer grievances by making helplines, online complaint systems, and public grievance centers more effective.
The Chief Minister stated, "Providing uninterrupted, high-quality, and affordable electricity to every household is the state government's top priority. Jharkhand will be made self-reliant in the energy sector through the use of modern technology and renewable energy."
