Sikkim/Gangtok: A massive landslide occurred in Upper Rimbi village under Yangthang constituency of Gezing district of Sikkim on Thursday night. 3 people died and 2 people were seriously injured due to the landslide.
A landslide occurred in Upper Rimbi village late Thursday night amid heavy rains that have been continuing for the last few days. The landslide over the house completely destroyed the house and the people sleeping inside were caught in the landslide.
As soon as the incident was reported, immediate relief and rescue operations were started with the help of district administration officials, district disaster management team, policemen, SSB jawans and local people.
Gayzing district Superintendent of Police Chhering Sherpa said that two people were rescued amid heavy rains and adverse conditions. The person is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
MLA and Minister of Yangthang constituency Bhim Hang Limbu reached his constituency from capital Gangtok last night and joined the relief and rescue operations.
