Execution of Rakha Mine Lease Deed, Resumption of Mining Operations After 24 Years

Jharkhand/East Singhbhum : A significant milestone has been achieved in Jharkhand's mining history. The Rakha Copper Mines, which had been closed for 24 years, will now be operational again. The Jharkhand government executed the Rakha Mining Lease Deed on Friday. East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Karna Satyarthi signed the deed on behalf of the state government, while the Executive Director-cum-Unit Head of the Indian Copper Complex (ICC) at Ghatsila signed on behalf of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad and District Mining Officer Satish Kumar Nayak were also present.

The Rakha Mining Lease has been renewed for 20 years. This will revive copper mining operations in East Singhbhum and reinvigorate industrial activity in the region. The Deputy Commissioner stated that this move symbolizes the Jharkhand government's commitment to promoting the mining sector and adhering to environmental regulations. He expressed hope that the project would provide new opportunities for local people and accelerate inclusive development in the district.

HCL's Executive Director-cum-Unit Head expressed gratitude to the government and the district administration, stating that the project would strengthen the country's mineral economy. Hindustan Copper Limited, a Government of India undertaking, is the country's only vertically integrated copper producer.

It is noteworthy that the Rakha mine, which has been closed since 2001, is now planned to produce approximately 3 million tons of ore annually. A new concentrator plant with the same capacity will also be established. It is estimated that this project will create approximately 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. This initiative, which will revitalize the local economy, will not only help generate employment but also strengthen the country's self-reliance in copper production.
