Ranchi, September 24, 2026: A delegation of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries, led by Chamber President Tulsi Patel, met Transport Secretary Rajiv Ranjan and urged the government to expedite the operation of the Transport Nagar at Sukurhutu and begin the process of allotting premises to transporters.
Tulsi Patel said that the Transport Nagar was developed to reduce traffic congestion in Ranchi and streamline the city’s transportation system. However, nearly three years after its inauguration, the facility has still not started full-fledged operations. He urged the authorities to hand over the Transport Nagar to transporters at the earliest and initiate the allotment and operational process.
He also suggested that the Chamber, Ranchi Goods Transport Association and concerned departments should hold a joint meeting to establish a transparent and practical system regarding allotment, rent and lease arrangements.
Chamber General Secretary Rohit Agrawal said that transporters should be permitted to make practical modifications to the existing infrastructure, wherever required and permitted under the rules. This would help accommodate the actual requirements of heavy vehicle movement, loading and unloading, parking and warehousing.
Joint Secretaries Amit Sharma and Pooja Dhada urged the authorities to ensure the participation of transporters in the second phase of Transport Nagar construction. They said practical suggestions from transporters should be considered before finalising the construction plan so that operational difficulties can be avoided in the future.
Transport Secretary Rajiv Ranjan assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken on the suggestions. He said that a joint inspection of the Transport Nagar site would soon be conducted in coordination with the Urban Development Department. The facilities required by transporters would be reviewed and steps would be initiated towards the allotment process.
During the meeting, Tulsi Patel also raised the issue of the appointment of non-government members to the State Transport Authority. He said that the absence of such appointments has been causing difficulties in obtaining permits for interstate buses for the past year, leaving bus operators facing uncertainty.
The Transport Secretary informed the delegation that the department has already made the necessary recommendation for issuing the related notification.
The delegation included Chamber President Tulsi Patel, General Secretary Rohit Agrawal, Joint Secretaries Amit Sharma and Pooja Dhada, Ranchi Goods Transport Association President Prabhakar Singh, Sunil Singh Chauhan and Shyam Bihari Singh.
