Ranchi: Ranchi Police has solved a major theft case reported from Radium Road in Ranchi, recovering cigarettes worth approximately Rs 15.70 lakh along with a stolen mobile phone.
According to the police, unidentified thieves broke the lock of Suwalal Gopilal Jain's shop during the night of September 26 and stole around Rs 3,000 in cash, an old mobile phone without a SIM card and cigarettes worth approximately Rs 15.70 lakh.
Following a written complaint by Vinayak Bharti, Kotwali Police Station registered Case No. 220/2026 on September 27 and launched an investigation.
Acting swiftly on technical evidence and confidential information, the police detained two suspects, identified as Kundan Verma and Vijay Rajak alias Lallu.
During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted their involvement in the crime. Based on their disclosure, police recovered the stolen goods, including six bags and three sacks containing cigarettes of different brands, along with the stolen mobile phone.
Police said Kundan Verma has a previous criminal record and has been jailed in several cases in the past. His previous cases include allegations related to theft, assault and offences under the NDPS Act.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Kundan Verma, a resident of Shivaji Lane Chowk, Harmu Road, under Sukhdeonagar Police Station, and Vijay Rajak alias Lallu, a resident of New Kishoreganj Road No. 6/2, Ranchi.
The police team involved in the operation included ASP Kotwali Nikhil Rai, Kotwali Police Station officer Sanoj Kumar Chaudhary, Sukhdeonagar Police officer Sunil Kumar Kushwaha and other police personnel and armed forces.
Ranchi Police has initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the case.
