Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth launched the indigenous Extreme Weather Grade (XWG) diesel in New Delhi. Jointly developed by the Indian Army and oil marketing companies, this specialized fuel remains effective at temperatures as low as -42°C, thereby enhancing the operational capability and safety of Army vehicles in snowy and high-altitude regions.
It complies with BS-6 and IS-1460:2025 standards and can be used in existing military vehicles without requiring any engine modifications. Describing the launch as a significant step towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India), the Army Chief stated that this technology would also prove highly beneficial for future civilian use, particularly in mountainous and extremely cold regions.
