“Friendship Forged in Jail Turns into Bike Theft Gang Outside”: Ranchi Police Nab 7 Criminals, Recover 12 Bikes
Ranchi: The Ranchi Police have busted an inter-district motorcycle theft gang operating within the jurisdiction of the Namkum Police Station. Acting on intelligence, the police arrested seven members of the gang and recovered 12 stolen motorcycles, along with various vehicle parts and mobile phones.
According to the police, on the evening of May 18, they received a tip-off that a young man was heading towards Rampur riding a stolen Apache motorcycle. Following this information, a vehicle inspection drive was launched near the Sidroul Joda Mandir. During the inspection, the police apprehended Abhay Singh—alias Mannu Singh—who was riding a blue Apache motorcycle.
During interrogation, Abhay Singh revealed that he had previously served jail time in connection with bike theft cases. While in jail, he met Waseem Ohdar—alias Waseem Alam—and subsequently, the two joined forces to form an organized bike theft gang. The gang members would steal motorcycles from busy markets in Ranchi and its surrounding areas, alter the number plates, and then sell the stolen vehicles.
Acting on leads provided by Abhay, the police arrested the other members of the gang: Waseem Ohdar, Danis Alam, Sarif Khan, Naseem Ansari, Tauhir Ansari, and Moeen Khan.
During the raids, the police seized 12 stolen motorcycles, dismantled engines, and various vehicle parts, in addition to six mobile phones. According to the police, several members of the gang already have multiple cases of theft and forgery registered against them.
This operation was executed by the Namkum Police Station team under the leadership of DSP Amar Kumar Pandey, under the supervision of the Rural SP, and in accordance with the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police.
