Health Sciences University in Jharkhand Gains Momentum; Dr. Sudhir Gupta Appointed Vice-Chancellor
The State Government of Jharkhand has taken a significant step toward strengthening medical education within the state. Accelerating the process of operationalizing the Jharkhand University of Health Sciences, Ranchi, the government has appointed Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta as its Vice-Chancellor. In this regard, the Department of Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare issued a notification on March 20.
Dr. Gupta is currently serving at AIIMS, New Delhi, and will hold this position for a maximum tenure of three years or until he attains the age of 70. For the university's operations, the campus of the Panchayati Raj Training Institute, located in Brambe, Ranchi, has been temporarily designated as the site.
Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh stated that the establishment of this university marks a historic milestone for medical education. According to him, bringing all medical institutions under a unified administrative umbrella will ensure uniformity across academic curricula, examinations, and administrative functions.
This new framework is also expected to lead to an increase in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats, as well as provide a boost to research activities.
