Jharkhand High Court Takes Strong Stand on Madrasa Teachers’ Pension and Gratuity Case, Summons Principal Secretary and Director of Education

Ranchi News:
In a case concerning pension and gratuity benefits for madrasa teachers, the Jharkhand High Court has taken a strict view against the state government. During the hearing on Monday before the bench of Justice Anand Sen, the court questioned the government on why its order dated 13 June 2024 had not been complied with till now.

The court asked the state counsel to clarify the circumstances under which the order was not implemented, but no explanation was submitted on behalf of the government. Earlier as well, the High Court had directed the state to file a reply, but no action was taken.

Expressing displeasure over this, the court has directed the Principal Secretary of the Education Department and the Director of Secondary Education to appear in person at the next hearing. The court said that the officials must explain why the order was not followed and why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them.

The petitioner informed the court that in 2014, the state government issued a resolution denying pension and gratuity benefits to madrasa teachers. This resolution was later struck down by the High Court, which ordered the government to extend the benefits. Due to non-compliance, a contempt petition was filed.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled after eight weeks.
