PDJ Rajkamal Mishra holds monthly review meeting with Legal Aid Defence Counsel System advocates

A monthly review meeting was held in the chamber of the Principal District and Sessions Judge located in the District Civil Courts premises. The meeting was chaired by Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Rajkamal Mishra, in the presence of advocates of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS).

The meeting was attended by DLSA Secretary Rajesh Kumar, LADCS Chief Naseem Ansari, Deputy Chiefs Umesh Kumar and Narayan Sahu, Assistants Indrani Kujur, Bhupendra Kumar and Sudama Sahu.
Focus on undertrial prisoners
The central point of discussion was the status and progress of cases related to undertrial prisoners.
The Supreme Court order dated 8 October 2025 was reviewed in detail, and directions were given to ensure regular follow-up on all pending cases of inmates.
Review of pre-arrest assignments
The PDJ and DLSA Chairperson sought information regarding the deployment of LADCS advocates at police stations for pre-arrest assistance and reviewed the nature of work being carried out by them.
It was highlighted during the meeting that currently, LADCS is handling about 5 percent of all criminal cases in the district.
Objective of the meeting
The meeting aimed at strengthening the legal aid framework, ensuring timely assistance to the needy and improving efficiency in the handling of criminal matters involving underprivileged individuals.
