Attendance Still Maintained Through Register at CCL’s Piparwar Mines Ashok OCP
Biometrics System Down for Months, Serious Questions on Discipline and Transparency
Piparwar: At a time when most government and industrial establishments have adopted digital and biometrics-based attendance systems, employees at CCL’s Piparwar area-based Ashok OCP are still marking their attendance through a traditional register. This practice not only raises questions about reliability but also encourages indiscipline and arbitrary attendance behavior among employees.
According to local sources, many employees do not record their attendance on time and often arrive and leave at their convenience. This not only affects daily operations but also disrupts production-related activities. The absence of a clear attendance record makes it difficult to fix responsibility, leading to weakened discipline within the workplace.
Machine Out of Order for Months, Software Not Installed on Computer
A visit to the attendance room reveals that the biometric machine has been out of order for several months. Although a computer was provided by the management three months ago, the required software has still not been uploaded. As a result, the entire biometric system remains non-functional, and the transparent attendance process has not yet been implemented.
Employees claim that such a long delay in repairing the machine and installing the software is incomprehensible. One employee, requesting anonymity, said, "Despite being a major company, the basic digital system here is not functioning properly. This increases misuse and honest employees suffer."
Impact on Work Environment
Experts believe that in a crucial sector like coal production, maintaining accurate records of employee presence and absence is extremely important. When officers and workers are not available on time, production targets get affected. The workplace environment also deteriorates, as indiscipline directly impacts teamwork.
Awaiting Management Response
Local employees say that this issue has been reported to the concerned authorities several times, but no concrete action has been taken so far. They have demanded that the biometric system be started at the earliest to ensure a transparent and accurate attendance process.
Sources claim that the matter has been discussed at the management level, but implementation continues to be delayed. Employees are now waiting to see when the digital system will finally be activated and improvements in the attendance process will begin.
