Tamil Nadu/Chennai: The match schedule of the FIH Hockey Junior Men's World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 was released on Monday at a grand ceremony held in Chennai.
According to the schedule, defending champions Germany will start their campaign with a thrilling match against South Africa in Madurai. Host India will play their first match against Chile in Chennai.
This will be the first time that the Junior World Cup will be held with the participation of 24 teams. The tournament will be played in Chennai and Madurai from 28 November to 10 December 2025.
The pools of the tournament are as follows:
Pool A: Germany, South Africa, Canada, Ireland
Pool B: India, Pakistan, Chile, Switzerland
Pool C: Argentina, New Zealand, Japan, China
Pool D: Spain, Belgium, Egypt, Namibia
Pool E: Netherlands, Malaysia, England, Austria
Pool F: France, Australia, Korea, Bangladesh
On this occasion, FIH President Tayyib Ikram said – “It is historic for us to have a Junior World Cup with 24 teams for the first time. It will also give emerging countries a chance on the big stage. Tamil Nadu will make the tournament memorable with its culture and love for hockey.”
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said – “It is a proud moment for Tamil Nadu that we will host the World Cup in Chennai and Madurai. This event will further inspire the youth to take up hockey.”
Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey said, “This historic edition is a matter of pride for Indian hockey. Now the countdown has begun.”
General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh said, "The announcement of the fixtures has doubled the excitement of the players and spectators. Chennai and Madurai will together welcome the world in a festive atmosphere."
FIH President Tayyib Ikram, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Atulya Mishra (IAS), Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) CEO/Member Secretary Thiru J. Meghanatha Reddy (IAS), Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey, General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh and Treasurer Shri Shekhar J. Manoharan were present at the ceremony.
