Ranchi, September 14, 2026: A special CBI court in Ranchi has sentenced two railway officers to three years of rigorous imprisonment each in a corruption case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Special CBI Judge Yogesh Kumar convicted K.K. Jha, Assistant Material Manager at East Central Railway (ECR), Patratu, and Dr. Rajeshwari Singh, Senior DMO, in the case.
Along with the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each on both convicts. In case of non-payment of the fine, they will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment.
What Was the Case?
According to Special Public Prosecutor (PP) Khushboo Jaiswal, the case dates back to 2018, when railway contractor Naresh Kumar Singh submitted a written complaint to the CBI.
The contractor supplied spare parts to the Railways. The two accused had allegedly demanded a total bribe of ₹62,000 for clearing his pending bills. Of this amount, ₹45,000 was allegedly meant for Dr. Rajeshwari Singh and ₹17,000 for K.K. Jha.
Arrested Red-Handed
After verifying the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested both officers red-handed while accepting the bribe money.
During the trial, the CBI examined 18 witnesses before the court to establish the allegations. Based on the evidence and witness statements, the court found both railway officials guilty and sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment each.
